Grant Recipient Dafnis Prieto
The Boomerang Fund for Artists, Inc.

Dear Friends of the Boomerang Fund:

In 2004, Boomerang awarded its first grant to then-unknown jazz percussionist and composer Dafnis Prieto. Mr. Prieto used the money to complete his first album. Fast forward to the present…Now Mr. Prieto is a celebrated jazz artist, with two Grammy nominations and several critically acclaimed albums to his credit. The role that Boomerang played in Mr. Prieto’s career development, albeit small, was pivotal. Mr. Prieto said “That grant was the push I needed to jump start my career.”

Since its inception, with your generous support, Boomerang has provided assistance to more than 40 artists—dancers, visual artists, choreographers, ballet dancers, musicians, actors, writers, filmmakers, the works! The impact of these grants is inarguable. They provide real support, not only financial, but inspirational, without exacting anything from the artists who unexpectedly find themselves the beneficiaries of your generosity.

Boomerang is proud of all of its grant recipients, for they unselfishly give of their time and talent to the world, often without any recognition or return on their investment. Occasionally, however, the world takes notice of artists, and Boomerang is pleased to extend its heartfelt congratulations to Holly Twyford and Karl Miller, each of whom won Helen Hayes Awards on April 5th for outstanding performances in a drama ("Angels In America" for Miller, and "Little Dog Laughed" for Twyford). Boomerang also celebrates its newest grant recipients: poet Genine Lentine, theatre artists John and Leo Manzari, theatre production company The Barrow Group, and visual artist Swoon.

If you are able to contribute to help Boomerang at this time, I thank you in advance for your generosity. May your gifts be returned to you a thousand times over!

With gratitude and best wishes,

Joseph P. Morra
